Dr. Chris Granias

Dr. Chris J. Granias received his doctorate in Theory and Composition from the University of Minnesota, a masters in Piano Performance from Northwestern University, and a masters in Composition from Drake University. A native of Chicago, Illinois, “Dr. G.” as he is affectionately known, has been teaching for nearly 40 years and has served on the music faculties of the University of Minnesota, Eastern Illinois University, St. John’s University, Concordia University – St. Paul, The Perpich Center for Arts Education, and the MacPhail Center for Music. Dr. G. has done world music research on the behalf of the Jerome Foundation in coordination with the Library of Congress, was a charter member of the American Composers Forum’s Education Committee, and a roster member of the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Dr Granias, “Dr. G.”, has recorded and released two albums of his original compositions, performed by former students of his. Dr G teaches from his home studio in Mounds View, MN. He has been an integral part of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Benefit Concerts, with his heart in the work as a patient himself with MS. The concerts highlight Dr. G.’s compositions and poetry.

I have been impacted many times by personal histories and cultural concepts of art in the communities in which I have both lived and worked. Through my teaching methods and creative processes I am always attempting to engage new ways of producing and sharing this passion with others.” – Dr. G.

Dr. G. specializes in classical piano, blues piano, composition, and music theory. He teaches students 12 years old and up.

Rates

  • $42 / half hour lesson
  • $84 / hour lesson

Attendance Policy

Cancelled lessons require a 24 hour notice for a credit or rescheduled lesson to be considered. If Dr. G needs to cancel a lesson, a credit or rescheduled lesson will be honored. No show/no call or cancellations less than 24 hours in advance will be considered a paid lesson regardless.
