I am of the belief that while music is worth taking seriously, what’s more important is that it is enjoyable and fun! I always teach with the goal of meeting the student where they are at by first finding out what music they are most attracted to, and then shaping the educational process to each student’s individual goals and interests. Everyone is entitled to their own personal taste no matter how long they have been playing, even beginners often have specific areas of interest that may have drawn them to a particular instrument or to music as a whole! After each lesson I give students a small practice assignment and encourage the use of a practice planner.
