Mary Newton

Dr. Mary holds a doctorate in organ performance from the University of Minnesota and has a secondary area of specialization in Music Education (piano pedagogy). She has over 15 years of teaching experience, working with students ranging in ages from 5 years old and upward.

Dr. Mary is a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, and puts many of her piano students in the Federation playing festivals. Frequently her students place in the highest percentiles and she loves to see how they grow as musicians as they progress from event to event. She also served as president of one of the local Twin City clubs.

In addition to her piano work, Dr. Mary loves to encourage people of all ages to explore the pipe organ. She started organ lessons in 7th grade and by 10th grade she was playing in her local church. If there is someone who ever looked at a pipe organ and wondered how to play those notes on the floor with the feet, she would love to show you!

Dr. Mary is a frequent recitalist around the Twin Cities and other regions. She has also presented workshops at the Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA) state conference and the regional American Guild of Organists (AGO) convention. She also serves on the national AGO Improvisation Competition committee and has served in other capacities at the national level. She is also a frequent contributor to the professional keyboard journals “The Clavier Companion” and “The American Organist.”

In her free time, Dr. Newton enjoys reading, cooking, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.

“I really enjoy finding creative ways to teach music. It is something that people can enjoy at any age and I love helping students discover their love of music!”
-Dr. Mary
