Rock Band Edition
Have fun rocking out with a band! Instructors and local musicians, Christian Andrews, Connor Debohegyi, and Riley Kragness help students pick a band name, practice songs individually and as an ensemble, and learn the skills needed to perform on stage. This 12 week session concludes with a live performance at a local venue!
Students will get private instruction to learn songs of their choosing. After a 3 month quarter, a showcase performance will be held at a local venue and students will have had a hands-on experience in what it’s like working in a live band environment.

Jazz Combo Edition
This course is not a jam session-it is an introduction to jazz and improv for musicians of any genre who have yet to learn this language! While this course may push your musical boundaries, it will also expand your reach and support your efforts with an overall ambiance of fun and acceptance. Instructor Peter Kramer will help you learn jazz standards and teach you to transform songs from other genres, such as rock and pop, into a small group jazz setting.
We will play tunes from The Real Book – let us know what instrument you are playing and we can secure a book for you – and songs selected by the Instructor. We also welcome you to bring in your own music and favorite tunes to class, regardless of genre!
The session ends with the class playing a short concert.
Instrumentalists from all backgrounds, this is your chance to:
-Learn how to use dynamics, rhythmic variety, and motivic development to create dramatically improved solos
-Learn exercises that will make you sound like a pro
-Improvise your own jazz solos

-Create your own set list to perform with your group
-Develop your musicianship skills by working together as an ensemble.
