Founder, President, & Instructor
Kathy Petersen is the president of Opus Music Academy and holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Kathy began playing piano in 1986 and teaching piano in 2009. She is currently working towards a certification in Piano Pedagogy in elementary, intermediate, and advanced piano as a student of the Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Music Development Program.
Social Media & Marketing Manager and Instructor
Dalton is a freelance clarinetist living and working in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Before a recent move, he was attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for his Master of Music Performance and Literature and Tennessee Tech University for a Bachelor of Music in Performance and Pedagogy.
In his free time, Dalton enjoys watching movies, hanging out with friends, playing with dogs, and knitting! His current project is learning to make hand-knitted chunky blankets!
Vice President and Instructor
Madeline Baumgart is a piano instructor in addition to being the Vice President of Opus Music Academy. After graduating from Tennessee Tech University with a degree in Piano Performance and Music Business, she relocated to Minneapolis to pursue her Master of Music Therapy at Augsburg University.
In her spare time, Madeline loves playing with her cats, Aurora and Anastasia, and hanging out with her nephew Noah. She also loves going on scenic walks, rock climbing, eating chicken nuggets, and reading. Although she misses her family in Tennessee, Madeline is excited to be in Minnesota and see some real snow!
Events Coordinator and Instructor
Born in Ashkelon, Israel, Yossi Aharoni is 32 years-old and currently resides in Crystal, MN. Yossi started playing drumset at the age of 17 and began studying music at Normandale Community College three years later. He also attended Winona State University, where in 2015 he graduated student-of-the-year in the music department and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music with a minor in Jazz and an emphasis in drumset, all while maintaining a 3.5 GPA.
In his spare time, he is the General Manager of a local community-based performing arts festival called CampFire that focuses on promoting the fire-arts, aerials and yoga.
