Daniel Wahlstrom

Daniel Wahlstrom is an accomplished touring/session drummer and instructor based in the Twin Cities. He studied under Dr. David Schmalenberger at Augsburg University, earning his BA in Music Business. There, he studied jazz drum set, hand drums, and concert percussion and gained the entrepreneurship and business acumen needed to be a successful freelance musician. He has a decade of experience playing with dozens of local and national touring acts across a broad variety of styles, such as Brazilian pop artist Julia Wheaton, NOLA jazz trumpeter Lance Brunious, and Palestinian-American singer/songwriter Clovers Daughter.

Daniel believes that musicians have a responsibility to share their talents with others, whether that be through composing, performing, or teaching. His focus is on fostering an environment where students can develop a lifelong love of music. Drawing on his extensive experience as a performer, he approaches teaching with an emphasis on patience, passion, and connection.

Teaching Philosophy

Every student comes to their lesson with a different set of interests, passions, and goals. I work to make a connection with the student and develop a deep understanding of why they want to play music and how they want to grow as a musician. By building a foundation of musical knowledge and technical ability, I strive to help students of all different backgrounds, tastes, and learning styles reach their goals and develop their own voice on the instrument.
