Life Passions: Horses, Writing, Camping, and Music

I was just telling Jackson (OMA Guitar Instructor and Director of Social Media and Marketing) that once upon a time, I wanted to be a writer. Before I chose music therapy as my major in college, English and Journalism was a very close contender.  As a child, I grew up handwriting short stories in the many spiral notebooks my parents would buy for me. They were usually about a girl and her horses, or a girl and her camping adventures. Within those stories, I would be my own illustrator of the spectacular landscapes and dream horses I would have. If you haven’t guessed, that girl was me. I didn’t have horses, but I longed for them, and still do. Camping Adventures though? Yes. I was a lucky girl to have a family that took us kids out on camping adventures all over the country.

When I was little, maybe 8 years old (2nd grade-ish) or so, I entered an essay contest for the town newspaper “Why My Mom Should Win Mother’s Day Flowers”; and she won those flowers that year. In elementary school, I won a regional Short Story Writing Competition and went to State. In high school, one of my favorite times was being the editor and writer of the Features section of the school newspaper.

Because of my love for writing, each month, I want to write to you all about things that are on my heart. When I do, carefully chosen words will hopefully find their ways into your hearts, and move you to find and continue the things in your life that have brought, continue to bring, or WILL bring joy and fulfillment to you. And share it somehow; if not through words, then maybe through music.

My little family and I continue to live out all the adventures I’d always expressed through words and drawings as a child. And, I’ll keep pursuing my dream of the horses I WILL have someday.

Keep pursuing. Keep sharing.
