Needless to say, Wednesday’s tragic events and the increased presence of federal agents in the Twin Cities have taken a heavy toll on the feelings of safety and comfort we’re able to find within our communities.
At Opus, we want to express explicitly that we are in support of everyone in our community regardless of one’s immigrant status. We see you, hear you, and stand with you. Just as music can provide these for you, Opus too will always be a place of safety, empowerment, and healing for all in these times of need.
UPDATE as of January 12, 2026:
Several of our families have expressed concerns of leaving their homes to come to the Opus studios for their lessons for various reasons related to current immigration actions. I want to state that we support and honor our customers’ feelings and experiences. Our team will do our best to transition to virtual lessons, or offer in-home lessons, in place of lessons that require families to travel to our studios. If a cancellation is necessary for reasons related to current events, we will consider offering a credit on your next invoice, or a refund.
I have communicated with the Opus Team on the protocols to take, and what to say and not say, in the event that law enforcement tries to enter our schools. If you would like a copy of the signs we will be putting up at our studios, as well as information on what you can(t) do or say, please let me know. I am happy to share it with you.
During these challenging times, it is important that we continue to keep our lives as routine and “normal” as we can for our children, who are our future.
I welcome any questions and concerns you have to share, and will do everything in my power to keep you, your children, and my team safe.
Sincerely,
Kathy Petersen
